ST. MARY'S, LAVANT, WEST SUSSEX

In this painting, Richard incorporated imagery, setting the Baptism of Christ in the river Lavant, and featured  the South Downs landscape, Chichester Cathedral and Goodwood Spitfires.

The combination of realism and spirituality was designed to integrate with the church's interior, and the naturalism of its Victorian Gothic style stained glass and sculptures.

In situ, the painting links  the figure of Christ to the font used during baptism ceremonies.
